We still have more complete high-resolution maps of the Moon and Mars than of much of Earth’s ocean floor.

Seabed mapping has improved quickly, but current global efforts still leave most of the ocean floor not mapped to modern high-resolution standards. That is astonishing when compared with the mapped surfaces of the Moon and Mars. This matters for navigation, hazards, climate, habitats and history.
