The mind is everything. What you think, you become.

Buddhist teaching, Dhammapada-style paraphrase

LiteraturePhilosophy

Why it matters

The idea in context

Best treated as a modern paraphrase of the opening of the Dhammapada — the celebrated anthology of the Buddha's sayings — rather than a verbatim quotation. The canonical verses declare that all experience is preceded by mind, led by mind, made by mind. The practical claim survives translation: repeated thoughts become habits, habits become conduct, and conduct slowly becomes a life.

Zihin her şeydir.
