The idea in context
Harriet Tubman escaped slavery in 1849, then risked her freedom returning to the South roughly a dozen times to guide about 70 enslaved people north along the Underground Railroad. She said this at a women's suffrage gathering in 1896. The pride is earned: not one of the people she personally led was ever lost or recaptured.
