Higher heart-rate variability often signals better recovery and nervous-system flexibility, though context matters more than one reading.
Physiology
Why it matters
The idea in context
Heart-rate variability measures tiny differences in time between beats. In many cases, higher HRV suggests the body can shift flexibly between stress and recovery states. But illness, alcohol, sleep, training and measurement noise can all move it. The so-what: use body data as a conversation starter, not a judge.
