A short walk after meals can help blunt the rise in blood sugar by giving muscles immediate work to do.
Metabolic science
Why it matters
The idea in context
After a meal, glucose enters the bloodstream. Moving muscles can take up some of that glucose, which may soften the spike compared with sitting still. This is not a replacement for medical care, but it is a simple behaviour many people can adapt. The so-what: the body handles food better when it is allowed to move.
