Bones are living tissue, constantly broken down and rebuilt so the skeleton can repair damage and adapt to use.

Why it matters

The idea in context

A skeleton looks fixed in a museum, but inside a living body bone is busy. Cells remove old or damaged mineral; other cells lay down new structure. That is why bones can heal after breaks and grow stronger under repeated load. Strength is not a static object — it is maintenance over time.
